Raymond "Ray" McGee first enlisted in the US Army from 1981-1986, serving in the Infantry as an Indirect Fire Infantry Crewman. As a Mortarman, he earned the Expert Infantryman Badge, an Army Commendation Medal, and many other awards and citations, finally rising to the rank of Sergeant (E-5) in 1983. He re-enlisted in 1986 as 91A10 Health Care Specialist and served as a Medic until 1989. During that time, he was the first Chief Instructor of the Combat Lifesaver Course for the 1st Infantry Division (Forward) and acted as the Assistant NCOIC of the Panzer Kaserne CBAS/TMC.
Also, during that time he was an Adjunct Professor with the City Colleges of Chicago-Europe teaching the National Registry EMT-Ambulance Course.
As a civilian, he held a variety of positions, including ER Technician, Paramedical Examiner, and Assistant Manager of a plasma center.
He volunteered with the American Red Cross as an CPR/First Aid Instructor and was a Captain with a volunteer fire-rescue company.
In 2000, he again re-enlisted for four more years as a Combat Medic. During that time, his unit was attached to the 3rd Infantry Division in 2003, supporting the division's movement into Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and earning the Combat Medic Badge.
In 2004, he again left the Army to pursue a college education, earning an Associate degree in Business. He was named to the National Dean's List in 2005 and inducted into the Alpha Beta Gamma International Honors Society that same year. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Brent Volunteer Fire-Rescue Department as its Secretary/Treasurer.
After college, he was the Branch Manager of a railroad crew transport company, before earning a Commercial Driver License and driving tractor-trailers and school buses.
He has been a member of the VFW since 2009 and is currently acting as the Post Historian.
